For fans of the show looking for Great British Sewing Bee patterns, the pattern challenge from this year’s Kids’ Week – a dragon dressing gown – is now available online for free.
Discussing the challenge, judge Patrick Grant said, “We’ve chosen it because it’s kind of fun. But also it’s an interesting challenge to give them a fabric that we’ve never given them before.”
The cute belted dressing gown is made from cotton towelling and detailing includes eyes, teeth and spikes.
The news that this Sewing Bee pattern would be available for free was announced on the Sewing Bee‘s Twitter account, with the team saying: “Bedtime is even more roarsome with our dragon dressing gown”.
You can find the full list of what you need along with a downloadable pattern and instructions on the Sewing Bee website.
The popular sewing competition returned to BBC1 on Wednesday 24 May and the sewers have been competing to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young. This year’s Sewing Bee finalists have now been decided – we can’t wait wait to see what they create in the series’ final episode.
If you’ve been inspired and are itching to put your sewing machine to use, a great place to start is the Sewing Bee website, where there are three more children’s clothes patterns to choose from:
For each item you’ll find a downloadable pattern, a list of what you’ll need and a detailed step-by-step method taking you through the process.
The Sewing Bee books also feature a wide range of patterns to download and print at home, plus they’re a valuable source for top tips and techniques.
The Modern Wardrobe, written by former Sewing Bee winner Juliet Uzor, includes 28 projects and seven printed pattern sheets, while the Sustainable Style book has 27 sustainable sewing projects from jackets to dresses. And if you’re looking to brush up on the skills needed to progress, The Techniques book is packed with advice on topics such as understanding paper patterns, making alterations and adding finishes.
