Looking for a fun game to play this summer? This easy craft project to make your own garden skittles is perfect!
Follow our step-by-step guide to make your own skittles. It’s a really easy project that’s perfect for beginner crafters – or for crafting with kids over the summer holidays. Plus, it’s a great way to use up empty food cans and the project will only cost a couple of pounds to complete.
Let kids paint their own skittles then play with them in the garden – just be sure there are no sharp edges at the top of the can first. Why not encourage children to make their own prizes for the skittles winner, too?
We’d recommend painting your skittles outside and on newspaper, as it can get a bit messy.
Happy crafting!
What you need
- Ten tin cans
- Sandpaper or sanding sponge
- Chalk or spray paint
- Paint brush
- Scrap paper or newspaper
How to make garden skittles
1. Clean the tins and remove the labels. Sand down the sharp edges.
2. If using spray paint, create a workspace outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Protect your surfaces with old newspaper and apply your paint. Allow to dry.
3. Stack into a pyramid and use bean bags or tennis balls to knock them down.
TIP: Alternatively, wrap brightly coloured twine or string around the each can securing in place with a hot glue gun.
